Cavallino Classic is Part of New “Best of the Best Award”
Reviving the tradition of celebrating the finest classic motorcar in the world The Peninsula Hotels today announced the launch of The Peninsula Classics Best of the Best Award, a Peninsula Signature Event. The Hon. Sir Michael Kadoorie, Chairman of The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited, together with award co-founders Christian Philippsen, William E. “Chip” Connor and Bruce Meyer, made the official announcement today at the opening of The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering.

The co-founders of The Peninsula Classics Best of the Best Award are four of the world’s foremost international motoring experts, brought together by their appreciation of fine motor vehicles, immaculate restoration and the preservation of their heritage. Co-founder Sir Michael Kadoorie is joined by Christian Philippsen who brings his expertise as one of the world’s most prominent Classic Automobile authorities. William E. “Chip” Connor is a figurehead in the world of international vintage car collecting and a passionate amateur racecar driver. Founding Chairman of the Petersen Automotive Museum, Bruce Meyer is renowned in the motoring world for curating one of the premier vintage car collections in the United States.
The inaugural Peninsula Classics Best of the Best Award will be presented next year at the 14th annual The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. Just six of the world’s finest classic cars will be eligible for consideration – the Best of Show winners from the six most prestigious international car shows in the world (with the sixth event to be forthcoming):
The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering – A prominent component of the historic Monterey Car Week, The Quail is a private, invitation-only world-renowned motorsports event featuring one of the world’s finest and rarest collections of vintage automobiles with unrivalled luxury lifestyle and culinary elements.
The Concours of Elegance – Held at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, The Concours of Elegance in the UK features the rarest cars in the world alongside Scotland’s most illustrious racing drivers.
The Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance – An intimate celebration of priceless automobiles held on Amelia Island, Florida benefiting charitable organizations.
The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance – First conducted in 1950, The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance has grown to be the world’s premier celebration of the automobile.
The Palm Beach Cavallino Classic – The six-day motoring event held in Palm Beach, Florida, attracts car lovers from all over the United States and Europe to its showcase of speed. The Palm Beach Cavallino Classic benefits several different charities and offers themed activities including Classic Sport Sunday, the Rolls-Royce Reunion, the Yacht Hop and seminars, among other motoring events.
A judging panel comprised of preeminent motorcar experts, designers and notable celebrities in the motoring world will collaborate to select The Peninsula Classics Best of the Best, which will be brought to The Quail 2016.
