Export Cabriolet Steals the Show at the 26th Cavallino Classic

Best of Show Gran Turismo at the recent 2017 Cavallino Classic Concorso d’Eleganza was won by the petit but by no means retiring 1951 212 Export Vignale Cabriolet, s/n 0110 E, brought by collector Peter Kalikow and restored by David Carte.

Built for the Portuguese Ambassador in France, Jorge da Cunha d’Almeida Araujo, this diminutive right hand drive open top Ferrari soon found its way to the USA, where its simple charm and elegance made its way through several notable collections, including those of Sherwood Johnston, John Delamater, Ken Hutchison and Peter G. Sachs. In the 80s, it went to Germany with another famous collector, Hartmut Ibing, but was soon back in the USA with collector Thomas Stegman. Thomas took it on the Grand Tour of the USA, winning every conceivable Cup with this car at all the major shows.

Here it garnered the Best of Show for the finest GT on the field, but also took home the Chief Judge Emeritus Cup as awarded by Ed Gilbertson.

This pretty little cabriolet was originally covered in detail in Cavallino 91, and we will be showing it again soon, in its new paint scheme of burgandy over creme.

Full Cavallino Classic coverage with results and chassis numbers in Cavallino 218.
