Ferrari Limited Edition Jewel from Terzo Dalia
The firm of Terzo Dalia first came to prominence after entering a contest to make the best Ferrari model for Ferrari’s 50th Anniversary 20 years ago. They won hands down against hundreds of entries, and went on the gain more fame as the maker of exquisite 1/3 scale models of Ferrari engines, body bucks (trellises), gear boxes, carburetors, valve covers, grilles, etc.
The firm has decided to commemorate the “70° Ferrari Anniversary” with a very exclusive handmade jewel of a model, in 70 numbered copies only. It is the result of more than a year of work, between design, equipment, prototypes, alternatives and improvements, that has allowed Terzo Dalia to reach the final realization of this work, which is superb.
This new work is a faithful representation of the 12 cylinder Ferrari 250 Tour de France engine, but in a charming 1/3 scale. It is made with the same techniques and materials used by the Ferrari factory in the years of 1956-1959, with hand-formed sand casting of aluminum, for example, while other parts are turned stainless steel.
More than 200 elements are professionally assembled in this miniature gem, using more than 500 screws and no adhesives. Everything is made by hand in Italy, and with meticulous precision. Even the inside of the engine – the turning mechanism, the 12 pistons, the connecting rods and the crankshaft, all are fashioned by one master craftsman. All the mechanisms are then synchronized with very precise tooling, exactly like the original.
Due to the complexity and unique nature of this scale model, about 400 hours are required to complete each example. Production is limited, for the fortunate few, to 70 pieces only, each one complete with a signed and numbered certificate to prove its authenticity.
