Ferrari Europa Wins Best of Class at Villa d’Este
Despite a few concerns about the selection of cars, the 2017 edition of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este was once again a huge success. The summer weather certainly contributed to the special atmosphere that we found this year, with the same satisfaction and pleasure at being on the shores of the beautiful and inimitable Lake Como.
Even though this was the year of the 70th birthday of Ferrari, there were only seven Ferraris invited to enter here, and they were presented in the folowing classes:
CLASS E: The Grand Tour continues: The next 40 Years: 250 GT Europa Speciale
CLASS F: Fast and Flamboyant: Playboys' Toys: 250 GT California Prototipo, 365 California, 365 GT4 BB NART-Michelotti, 365 GTB4 Gr4
CLASS H: Shaped by Speed: Racing through the Decades: 250 SWB Comp, 365 GTB4 Gr4 Spider
At the end of the day, the 1957 Alfa Romeo Giulietta SS Prototipo Coupé Bertone won the best trophies, including the Trofeo BMW Group and the Trofeo BMW Group Italia by Public Referendum at Villa Erba. The 1935 Lurani Nibbio Open Single Seater Riva won the Coppa d’Oro Villa d’Este and the Best of Show by Public Referendum.
On the Ferrari side, there was a great Class win in Class E: The Grand Tour Continues. It was the 250 Europa GT Speciale, s/n 0407 GT, from Martin and Audrey Gruss. This car will be the subject of a full article in an upcoming Cavallino magazine.
The 250 GT Spyder California Prototipo took a Mention of Honor and the 250 SWB Comp gained the Trofeo Vranken Pommery for the best iconic car.
