Classic Ferraris Anticipated at the Monza Historic

In 2015 the Monza Historic was held for the first time and it is back on the calendar this year. It will host the Peter Auto grids at the beginning of July on one of the fastest circuits in the world.

The Monza Autodromo is located in the 800-hectare Parco Reale in the town of Monza to the north of Milan. It was opened in 1922 and it has hosted the Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix since 1950 (except 1980). The length of the circuit is 5793 km and it has 10 corners including the awesome Variante Ascari and the Parabolica. It is the fastest track on the Formula 1 calendar.

From 30th June to 2nd July the entrants in Monza Historic will commune with the past of this legendary track on which some of the greatest pages in the history of motor sport have been written. The Peter Auto grids are Classic Endurance Racing 1 & 2, Sixties’ Endurance, Trofeo Nastro Rosso, and Group C Racing and Heritage Touring cars highlighted in the GT, Sports, Prototype and Touring classes, cars that have marked the history of endurance racing.

Of interest to us here, Peter Auto created the Trofeo Nastro Rosso in 2010 and it followed in the footsteps of the Shell Ferrari Maserati Historic Challenge held between 1997 and 2009 in which the most exceptional Ferraris and Maseratis raced. It was managed by Peter Auto from 1999 to 2001 - without doubt the best years of the series – before it ended in 2009 depriving spectators of the opportunity to see these exceptional races.

Thanks to the experience and know-how acquired in historic racing, Peter Auto launched the Trofeo Nastro Rosso after the end of the Challenge with the aim of attracting a similar field in the same spirit. It also opened the series up to pre-1966 Sports and GT cars made by other Italian makes like Alfa Romeo, Abarth, Bizzarini, Iso, Lancia, Osca Stanguellini, etc (see full list of eligible cars on the site). Since 2013 the grid accepts – on invitation only – some hand-picked beautiful machines. Henceforth, Aston Martin DB4 GTs and DB4 GT Zagatos can share the track with their Italian rivals, Maserati 300s, Ferrari 250 GT Berlinettas and Alfa Romeo TZs.

Peter Auto is obviously aware of the fact that many of the cars in question are now worth a great deal of money, and that their owners with good reason, are not all that keen on racing them in historic events where they have to share the track with many other vehicles, so it has decided to apply sporting ethical rules to ensure the respect of the cars taking part in the Trofeo Nastro Rosso to reduce risks to the minimum.

In 2017, the Trofeo Nastro Rosso is part of six Peter Auto meetings: Jarama-Classic (31 March-1 April), Spa-Classic (19-21 May), Grand Prix de l’Age d’Or (9-11 June), Monza Historic (30 June-2 July), the new Hungaroring Classic (29 September-1 October) and Les Dix Mille Tours (20-22 October).

Thanks to the name that Peter Auto has built up since its creation and the expertise of its teams, the company has acquired a reputation for being able to assemble the biggest and richest grids of historic cars for which it organizes races at its European events.

As proof of the quality of these grids, in 2015 Classic Endurance Racing was awarded the title of the Racing Series of the Year at the International Historic Motoring Awards.
