Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 Book Celebrates the 60th Anniversary

A New Book by Ed Heuvink with noted 250 GTE expert Yvo Alexander

In commemoration of the 60th year of the elegant 250 GTE 2+2, a new lavish book has been released for your education and enjoyment. The author is Ed Heuvink, who has written many automotive books, and he is ably assisted by GTE expert (and owner) Yvo Alexander. The book combines a history of the type, plus copious facts and figures, plus good quality reproductions of nearly all the historic documents of the GTE, as well as both black & white archive photos and more recent color photos of various Ferrari 250 GTEs.

Designed by Pininfarina for Ferrari in the early sixties, the 250 GTE 2+2 was the first large-scale production, four-seater Ferrari with nearly one thousand examples built in four years. This success proved that the concept was correct and that even then the car had a remarkable allure - here was a true Ferrari for the street.

Author Heuvink begins the full story with a quick tutoring on what led up to this public success, starting with Enzo Ferrari at the wheel of an Alfa Romeo, then the Scuderia Ferrari motorsport history pre-war and the founding of the company post-war, up to the 250 GTE project in the late fifties. The author describes the role of the famous Colombo three liter V-12 engine in detail and the involvement of Battista ‘Pinin’ Farina in the Pininfarina design. There’s a reason here for this and it is to show that the GTE was a culmination of all that went before, the racing, the technology, the style.

The book is limited to 954 numbered copies (the reason? 954 is the total number of 250 GTEs produced) and is hardcover with dust jacket. Included are a large number of photos of GTEs worldwide today as well as in-depth photos of the car, plus many rare and unseen historical images. The introduction is by 250 GTE owner and expert Yvo Alexander.

The book is an excellent addition to any Ferrari or sports car enthusiast’s collection, and will go a long way to uncovering the true merits of this elegant boulevard cruiser.
